Gold foils seized at Tiruchi airport

Thin gold foils valued at Rs 25 lakh, allegedly smuggled from Dubai, have been seized at the airport here and one person arrested in this connection, officials said.

Customs Superintendent Pannerselvam said Abdul Sakoor (37) of Kasaragod in Kerala had come yesterday to collect his baggage. When his baggage was scanned, customs officials found thin gold foils weighing 820 grams concealed inside a parcel.

The parcel was seized and he was arrested, officials said.

Abdul Sakoor had arrived here from Dubai on May 2 but his baggage came later, they said, adding he is being questioned.
