Gold, foreign currencies seized from passengers

Customs officials seized gold valued at Rs 21.21 lakh from two passengers and foreign currency worth about Rs 22 lakh from three others who arrived at the international airport here.

Pieces of cut gold bars, weighing 482 grams, were seized from a passenger who arrived from Sharjah today, a customs press release said.

A gold chain weighing 260 grams and valued at Rs 7.43 lakh was seized from a passenger hailing from Palakkad, who also landed from Sharjah, it said.

Foreign currency equivalent to Rs 21.99 lakh was seized from three passengers when they tried to smuggle it out late last night, the release added.
