Gold futures were up by Rs 62 to Rs 29,063 per 10 grams as speculators created fresh bets amid positive cues from global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in April was trading higher by Rs 62, or 0.24 per cent, to Rs 29,063 per 10 grams, in a business turnover of 300 lots.

The metal for delivery in far-month June rose Rs 20, or 0.10 per cent, at Rs 29,073 per 10 grams in a turnover of 13 lots.

Analysts said widening of positions by participants, tracking a firm trend overseas, mainly attributed the rise in gold prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, gold rose 0.25 per cent higher at USD 1,227.80 an ounce in New York.
