A gold merchant in the city today lodged a complaint that two kg of gold ornaments kept in a suitcase was found missing by his workers, while returning to the city from Bengaluru, police said.
According to the complaint lodged by one Thiagarajan, engaged in making jewellery and supplying them to customers in neighbouring States, his staff Jeevanandam and Sekhar had gone to Bengaluru to supply ornaments weighing 2.5 kgs.
After selling half a kilo of the jewels, the duo brought the remaining ornaments in a suitcase in a government bus, he said.

The workers noticed that the suitcase was broken open and the valuables missing when they reached Mettupalayam early today, the merchant said.
Police were interrogating the workers.
