Gold, silver shine on festive buying

Standard gold (99.5 purity) climbed by Rs 160 to close at Rs 31,960 per 10 gm from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 31,800.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) rose by Rs 155 to finish at Rs 32,095 per 10 gm from Rs 31,940.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) surged Rs 390 per kg to end at Rs 63,050 as against Rs 62,660 previously.

In Europe, gold prices fell on stronger dollar and weak stock markets prompting investors to go for some profit-taking, though losses were capped due to optimism over recent central bank stimulus measures.

Spot gold was bid down at USD 1,760.99 an ounce in early trade, while silver was bid lower at USD 34.27 an ounce.
