Gold, silver strengthens on steady buying

Silver also surged on sustained speculative off-take on the back of higher industrial demand.

Standard gold (99.5 purity) gained by Rs 140 per 10 grams to close at Rs 30,775 from Monday's closing level of Rs 30,635.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) went up by Rs 135 per 10 grams to end at Rs 30,910 from Rs 30,775.

Silver ready (.999 fineness) shot up by Rs 525 per kg to conclude at Rs 59,725 as against Rs 59,200 yesterday.

In Europe, gold gained amid investors' cautiousness over close quarter US presidential elections as well as Greek workers strike for protesting austerity measures.

 

Spot gold was bid up at USD 1,690.30 an ounce, in early trade and silver was bid higher at USD 31.28 an ounce.
