Gold prices ruled stable in a largely quiet trade at the domestic bullion market here on mute jewellery and investors offtake as well as lack of local buying interest at higher levels despite lower global cues.

While, silver weakened following heavy speculative selling and subdued industrial demand.

Standard gold (99.5 purity) closed its overnight level at Rs 31,285 per 10 grams.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) also settled at its previous level of Rs 31,435 per 10 grams.

Silver (.999 fineness) fell by Rs 353 to finish at Rs 47,460 per kg compared to Wednesday's close of Rs 47,813.

Globally, gold edged lower as a recovery in the dollar prompted some buyers to cash in recent gains, though uncertainty over the outlook for the US monetary policy continued to underpin the metal.

In London, spot gold was down 0.1 per cent at USD 1,344.33 an ounce in early European trade, after rising around 0.8 per cent over the last two days.

While, silver was up 0.4 percent at USD 20.12 an ounce.
