Gold weighing 1.2 kg seized from flight

About 1.2 kg of gold, abandoned in a domestic flight that arrived here from Chennai, was seized by Customs officials today.

Seizure of gold from an aircraft is happening for the first time here. According to officials, the flight that originated from Colombo landed at Chennai before it arrived here. The abandoned gold was found in a bag beneath a seat.

Officials suspect that the gold was likely to have been smuggled from Colombo to Tamil Nadu.

Further investigation is on, a top customs official said.
