A total of 1.63 kg gold worth Rs 51.36 lakh was today recovered at the airport here from a passenger, who arrived from Abu Dhabi, a custom official said.
"We have arrested the passenger, identified as Mohammad Yusuf, who arrived from Abu Dhabi by a Jet Airways flight today," said Deputy Commissioner of Customs, K Shubhendra.
"During the screening of the trolley bags, it was observed that the gold was concealed in inner linings, handles and wheels of the bags. The gold was rhodium-plated to avoid detection," he added.

Shubhendra said the recovery was 'important' since the passenger had used "a novel way" to conceal the gold.
