Gold worth Rs 1.35 crore seized in Chennai, 2 held

: Four kg of gold worth Rs 1. 35 crore has been seized in three separate incidents at the airport here and two persons have been arrested in this connection, Customs authorities said Sunday.

In the first incident, 258 gm of goldworth Rs 8.59 lakh was recovered from Kalandar Irfan who arrived from Dubai Sunday. He was frisked and found carrying the precious metal in his rectum.

In the second incident reported Saturday, gold bars weighing 885 gm were found on a Sudanese woman national, who arrived from Dubai. She was evasive during questioning and a search revealed gold worth Rs 29.3 lakh in her inner wear. She was arrested.

 

In the third incident, 2.2 kg of gold valued at Rs 96.53 lakh hidden in automobile spare-parts was recovered from a passenger, belonging to Amritsar, after his arrival here from Dubai Tuesday last. He was also taken into custody, the officials said.
