Gold worth Rs 30 lakh being smuggled seized; one held

Custom authorities today seized one kg of gold worth Rs 30 lakh from a passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad here while he was allegedly trying to smuggle the yellow metal.

On suspicion, the Air Intelligence wing of Customs department intercepted passenger Suresh Kumar, who arrived from Bangkok by a Thai Airways flight at the RGIA airport after midnight.

After a thorough checking, they found two gold bars concealed in his undergarments and jeans, a senior customs official said.

"During questioning, Suresh Kumar revealed that he hails from Visakhapatnam. He will be produced before a court," the official said.
