Gold worth Rs 38 lakh seized along Bangla border

Gold bars and biscuits worth Rs 38 lakh were seized by BSF troopers when they were allegedly being smuggled across India-Bangladesh border today.

The incident happeneed in the wee hours when a Border Security Force patrol detected some movement along the fence near border post Hakimpur in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

As the troops challenged the suspects, officials here said, the people fled leaving the bag containing the gold.

"One gold bar and two gold biscuits weighing 1.25-kg was recovered from the bag. The estimated market value of this seized yellow metal is about Rs 38 lakh, " the official said.
 

The border guarding force later handed over the seized gold to local Customs authorities, they said.
