Gold worth Rs 5.5 crore seized at MIA in one year: Official

The Customs had seized gold worth Rs 5.5 crore in various forms from the Mangaluru International Airport in the last one year, a senior Customs official said.

Speaking at the function held as part of international customs day celebrations here yesterday, Customs Commissioner M Subramanyam said that with digitalisation, the Commissionerate had achieved significant growth in taxation in recent years.

The annual revenue of the customs had risen by 36 per cent this year compared to the previous year, he said.

The Commissionerate had earned a unique name by handling transactions worth more than Rs 11,000 crore through imports and exports, he said.
 

He said a public grievance office had been set up to address the problems faced by exporters and importers.

City police commissioner Chandra Sekhar inaugurated the customs day celebrations at the Customs House in Panambur near here.
