Gold worth Rs 6.14 lakh seized from airport

Customs officials at the international airport here have seized 224.75 gms of gold, valued at Rs 6.14 lakh from a passenger who arrived here from Dubai.

Airport officials said the gold, in the form of silver paint-coated wires, was found hidden in the beading portion around the borders and edges of a laptop bag the passenger was carrying.

The passenger hailing from Mogralputhur in Kasaragod district of Kerala reached here by a flight yesterday, they said.

This is the second gold seizure from the airport in three days. Customs officials had seized 384 gms of gold worth Rs 10.46 lakh from a passenger from Dubai who arrived here on October 22.
 

Both the passengers held in connection with the seizure belonged to Kasaragod, the northern district of Kerala.
