Gold worth Rs 64 lakh seized from 2 passengers at IGI airport

Two persons were intercepted by the customs officials at international airport here for allegedly smuggling gold valuing Rs 64 lakh inside the country by hiding it in goods carried by them.

In first case, a passenger was intercepted yesterday after his arrival here from Dubai. He had concealed four gold plates total weighing two kilograms and pasted them inside the sticker of trolley on which he was carrying baggage, a press release issued today by the customs said.

The gold was seized and the passenger, who had come via Bahrain in a Gulf Air flight, was arrested, it said.

In another case, a passenger was intercepted after his arrival from Dubai. About 700 gms of gold hidden in the emergency light brought by him was recovered by the customs, the release said.
 

The total value of the gold seized in both the cases is about Rs 64 lakh, it said.
