Gold worth Rs 75 lakh seized, two arrested in Karipur airport

Three kgs of gold worth Rs 75 lakh were seized and two passengers arrested at the Karipur international airport here for allegedly attempting to smuggle the yellow metal from different Gulf countries, police said.

29-year-old Noushad of Koothuparambu in Kannur District was found carrying one kg of gold rod concealed inside a body spray container during a check by customs officials after he arrived from Sharjah in the wee hours, they said.

Customs officials, acting on a tip-off, arrested 32-year-old Hussain Sayeed Shajad of Rangareddy District in Andhra Pradesh for allegedly hiding gold bars weighing two kgs and worth Rs 50 lakh, in the fan enclosure of toilet in the flight in which he arrived from Dubai.
