Customs officials have seized 2.76 kg gold worth over Rs 93 lakh from two passengers in separate cases at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here as they tried to allegedly smuggle it.
In the first case, officials intercepted one passenger, who arrived at the airport in Shamshabad last night by a flight from Bangkok and quizzed him. It was found that he had concealed 2.36 kg gold worth Rs 80 lakh in an electronic instrument, a senior customs official said today.
The passenger belonged to Haryana and was subsequently arrested, the official said.

In another incident, officials last night recovered gold biscuits of 400 grams from a passenger, hidden inside his rectum.
He was, however, let off as the value of the gold seized was below Rs 20 lakh, officials added.
