Police Inspector Sunil Bonde arrested vice resident Vinod Agrawal and two others Kishore Gautam, Chairman Panchayat Samiti (Goregaon) and Barkat Ali Syed under the Atrocity Act today.

Later, they were produced in the court which granted them 14-day judicial remand.

Incidentally, Gedam was recently relieved of his charge pending investigation into his alleged role in some irregularities.

The local unit of BJP had launched a campaign against Gedam for alleged corruption in the district body under the leadership of ZP President Netram Katre and vice President Agrawal for past couple of months and had also written to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan demanding disciplinary action against Gedam.

Later, following instructions from the chief minister, the General Administration department had relieved Gedam of his charge.

However, in the meantime, Gedam lodged a complaint against Katre, Agrawal and others alleging they had manhandled him, used abusive language and made casteist remarks.

Alleging it was a misuse of the Atrocity Act, the BJP has called for a bandh in Gondia on Monday.

Secretary of BJP Ashish Wandile stated Gedam has misused the Atrocity Act to hide his misdeeds and the party would raise the issue of the arrests in the state assembly tomorrow.

Meanwhile, sources said ZP president whose name figures in the complaint has not been arrested as he commands a status of a Minister of State and the police would need to get permission from the government to arrest him.
