The Gondwana Gantantra Party (GGP) today appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to reintroduce ballot papers saying electronic voting machines are "prone to glitches and are unreliable".
In its letter to PM, GGP said EVMs often encountered technical problems as was evident in recently-held Assembly elections in five states where many voters could not exercise their franchise.
A GGP delegation comprising party's national vice-president Gulzar Singh Markam and five members handed over this letter to district collector and sub-divisional magistrate.
"On account of complaints regarding functioning of EVMs during recent polls, re-polling was ordered by chief election commissioner of India at many booths," Markam said in a release.
Markam said the party has requested prime minister to ban EVMs and conduct upcoming Lok Sabha elections through ballot papers.
GGP was formed in 1991 to plead for the rights of Gondi people, and to establish a separate state of Gondwana in central India.
