Good Friday was today observed in the National Capital with prayers and penitence shunning all worldly comforts to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ nearly 2,000 years ago.

Large number of devotees turned up at Churches across the city where prelates led special prayers to mark the day.

Christians started their day with fasting and went to the church to offer prayers and recalled the entire trial of Jesus, and how he was crucified.

Some even fasted for around 40 days before Good Friday in keeping with tradition.

As a part of the ceremony priest narrated the tale of betrayal, arrest, trial and crucifixion of Christ which was followed by customary drinking of "choruka".

After attending the evening mass the devotees broke their fast.
