Delhi Archbishop Anil Couto today expressed anguish over reports that CBSE-affiliated schools have been asked to observe 'Good Governance Day' on Christmas.

He also condemned the scheduled conversion drive at Aligarh on that day by a Hindu group.

"It is a violation of constitutional rights and guarantees to citizens of India such as the freedom of faith and the freedom of movement, expression and the freedom of movement, expression and association," he said.

Couto also called for an immediate end to such campaigns and sought intervention of both the state and central government in the matter.

A spokesperson of the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese said that the Christian community reserves its right to take legal recourse against such "conversion drives and hate campaigns".

"The community reserves its right to take legal action and approach the courts for stopping these conversion drives and hate campaigns as they violate the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of India," he said.
