Train services on the grand chord line of Eastern Railway were affected for around 10 hours owing to the derailment of three wagons of a goods train at Mugma station, around 30km from Dhanbad in neighbouring Jharkhand, a senior official said here today.
The wagons, loaded with coal, derailed around 12.30 am, blocking the down line of the Pradhankhanta - Sitarampur section of Eastern Railway's Asansol Division.
"The restoration work on the line was started on war footing and normal services resumed from 10.40 am," ER spokesman R N Mahapatra said.
The single line train services, however, remained unaffected during the restoration work, he added.
Nine mail and express trains, including 12302 Dn New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express and 12314 Dn New Delhi-Sealdah Rajdhani Express had to run behind schedule due to the derailment.
