Train traffic on the Western Railway was affected after three-wagons of a goods train derailed near Safale station this evening, a senior railway official said.
"Three wagons, of the 44-wagon-train carrying goods derailed near Safale around 6 PM. Due to this, long distance trains coming to Mumbai have been affected while trains leaving the city are being operated with speed restriction," said Ravindra Bhakar, chief PRO of Western Railway.
He said that efforts of rerailing are on at a warfooting and it is expected that trains would be resumed before midnight.

In the wake of the derailment, Western Railway has decided to short terminate and reschedule the timings of a few long distance trains.
Western Railway has appealed to the passengers to enquire with the railways before embarking on journey.
