Technology giant Google has invited amateur filmmakers from India to help create a full-length user-generated movie about daily life in the country.

The project, India in a Day, will be produced by Ridley Scott and Anurag Kashyap and directed by Richie Mehta.

"On Saturday 10th of October, grab your camera, film your day, and show us what life in evolving India is all about. Show us how you socialise with friends and connect with family; show us your work life and your aspirations; show us what you love and what you worry about," Google said.

"Help us capture how India is rapidly changing: what can you do today that you couldn't five years ago? What do you hope for? What would you like to change or achieve?"

Google said the most compelling and distinctive footage will be edited into a documentary film.

"The film will be available to see sometime in 2016," it said.
