A man from Maharashtra, arrested for allegedly robbing a pregnant woman of her jewels in a hospital here posing as a doctor, has been detained under the stringent Goondas Act as he was involved in similar crimes in the past, police said today.

Rajesh Arjun Paraskale was arrested from Nasik in Maharashtra on July 25 last by a special police team from here two months after he allegedly relieved the woman of her gold chain. He was lodged in the central prison here.

As it emerged during investigations that he was involved in several such cases across the country, including three in the city alone, Police Commissioner A K Vishwanathan ordered his detention under Goondas Act.

The detention order was served on him in the prison, a police release said.
