The ruling National Conference (NC) today said the Omar Abdullah-led state government is committed to fulfil the promises it made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Senior NC leader and MLA from Kalakot constituency Rachpal Singh said, "Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has given an impetus to higher education by expanding reach of colleges to remote areas... The underprivileged youth will be benefited immensely."

Rachapal said this after he laid the foundation stone of a college complex in his constituency, built at a cost of Rs 12 crore.

"Education is pivot of socio-economic transformation and by making it within the reach of youth living in far off areas the urban-rural gap will be plugged in a big way," he said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earmarked Rs 12 crore for the college building.

Singh said that National Conference attaches immense significance to outreach of education to all segments of the society and the efforts made by the state government in recent years have brought a significant turnaround in the sector.
