Government school headmaster commits suicide

A 53-year-old headmaster of a government primary school allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Akoda village here, police said today.

The incident came to light yesterday when the body of the deceased, identified as Puranmal Khenchi, a resident of Jhawarnagar Housing Board colony, was found hanging by passers-by in the forests of Akoda village, Assistant Sub- Inspector (ASI) Bhawani Singh of Dablana police station said.

On receiving information, police took down the body and seized a bag containing copies of application for transfer and slips of medical prescriptions, he said, adding, prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide.
 

The deceased was in depression, the ASI said, adding, the postmortem would be carried out today.

A case has been registered in this connection and further investigations are on, he said.

Ritish Sansdaya, a government teacher and leader of local teachers' association said the headmaster was under depression for overwork and wanted a transfer or voluntary retirement.

In a separate incident, a 17-year-old married girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Khunetiya village of Sadar police station, police said.

Phulanta Bheel hanged herself yesterday from the ceiling of her room as she was annoyed over not being allowed by her parents to stay with her lover, said SHO of Sadar police station Anis Ahamad.

Bheel was married off by her parents earlier but she wanted to stay with her lover with whom she had eloped a few days back, police said.

A case has been lodged in this connection, he said, adding, the body has been sent for post-mortem and the matter is being investigated.
