West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee today asked principal of Malda College Md Anwaruzzaman, who had offered to resign citing personal reason, to carry on his work.

"Even if someone wants to leave for personal reasons it is not the right thing to do...Whatever are your personal reasons you carry on your work," Chatterjee told reporters here.

He said he had spoken to the principal and also the governing body on the issue, and added the principal should have discussed the issue with the governing body before going to the media.

Anwaruzzaman had offered to resign yesterday citing personal reasons.

The minister also warned that financial irregularities would not be tolerated in educational institutes.

"In universities audit was not happening for a long time. A CAG panel auditor will assess financial aspects of the universities," Chatterjee said, adding that the government has no relation to the Calcutta University issue.
