Governor, CM condole death of passengers in collision

Assam Governor J B Patnaik and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today expressed deep condolences to the next of kin of the 30 people killed in a road accident at Barpeta today and wished speedy recovery to the eight injured, with Gogoi also announcing a compensation of Rs one lakh for next of kin of those killed.

The Governor in a message expressed his "deepest condolences to the victims of the tragic road accident" and wished speed recovery to the injured.

The Chief Minister also expressed his condolence and announced a compensation of Rs one lakh to the next of kin of those killed and free medical aid to the injured.
 

Gogoi also announced that henceforth, next of kin of all victims of road mishap would be paid Rs one lakh compensation instead of Rs 50,000 being paid so far.

The Chief Minister, who visited the Barpeta Medical College Hospital, directed the doctors to provide the best treatment to the injured, official sources said here.

Gogoi announced an inquiry into the mishap and directed the authorities concerned to ascertain whether the drivers had valid licence and take strict action against those violating rules on overcrowding of both passengers and goods vehicles.
