Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi Tuesday dedicated a CT Scan machine and a Radio-Isotope Therapy facility in the Nuclear Medicine Ward of Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) here.
Speaking at the function to commemorate one year of taking over of BBCI by the Department of Atomic Energy, the governor said, "the incidence of cancer is very high in the North Eastern Region and there are very limited cancer treatment facilities available in the region."
He said empowerment of BBCI as a centre of excellence through the Department of Atomic Energy and Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai will greatly benefit Assam and the North Eastern Region.
The governor said that the rising trend of tobacco consumption is a matter of concern which every stakeholder needs to take the responsibility to reverse the trend.
The governor expressed happiness to learn that BBCI has adopted a holistic approach to cancer treatment.
