Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi Friday laid the foundation stone of a new building for digital library and art gallery at the Raj Bhavan here.
"Library plays an important role in enriching our knowledge base and also increases the stock of our knowledge bank and makes us fit to face life," the governor said.
The collection of books should be very carefully chosen so that the library, apart from enhancing knowledge, also stimulates physical and mental faculties, he said.
He hoped that the setting up of the library would help the officers and staff of Raj Bhavan.
The digital library and art gallery would be constructed by the Assam Public Works Department at an estimated cost of Rs 2.05 crore and was expected to be completed within a year.
