Governor orders exemption of Entry tax for flood hit hotels

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today ordered the state finance department to exempt from entry tax various items that are used for reconstruction of infrastructure damaged due to last year's floods.

"As ordered by the Governor, the finance department has issued an order exempting payment of entry Tax under 'Entry Tax on Goods Act, 2000', for goods imported for construction, expansion and modernisation of Hotels," an official Raj Bhawan spokesman said here today.

The spokesman added that hoteliers seeking exemption under this notification can apply to the Director Tourism of concerned division along with a list of the items and the quantities to be imported for the construction, expansion and modernisation of their hotels.
 

The governor has also ordered the finance department to exempt the entry tax on furniture, office equipment and goods imported into the state by hoteliers to replace the goods that were destroyed due to floods.

"The exemption shall be available till February 28, 2015," he said.
