Though the petition was filed today, the registry did not number it after it noted a defect that the Governor had been made a respondent.

Justice P R Ramachandran Nair directed the petitioner to delete the Governor's name from the list of respondents.

Natarajan had challenged Governor H R Bhardwaj's order suspending him for intervening in the land gift case involving CPI(M) veteran V S Achuthanandan.

According to Natarajan, a Deputy Inspector General of Police, the Governor's November order was 'illegal'.

Governor had suspended Natarajan on the basis of the recommendation by the government following a police probe which came across evidence to corroborate the charge that the commissioner had urged a police official investigating the case to spare Achuthanandan.

The case against Achuthanandan, ordered by the present UDF Government, pertains to alleged violation of norms while allotting land to T K Soman, an ex-serviceman and his close relative, in Kasaragod district when he was Chief Minister heading the previous LDF Ministry.
