Governor stress on UNESCO's world heritage tag for Majuli

The governor in a high-level meeting held at the Raj Bhawan discussed various measures to preserve and promote Majuli, as a world heritage site.

He stressed the need to develop internal communication and also approach to the island from other towns and cities.

Patnaik urged the authorities to preserve the heritage Vaishnav monasteries or 'sattras' to promote tourism in the island, protect it from erosion and its flora and fauna.

The meeting was attended among others by Assam Water Resources Minister Rajib Lochan Pegu, former AGP MP Arun Sarma, Chairman Brahmaputra Board Kashindra Yadav and other senior officials. PTI DG SB KK
