Haryana Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki today urged people to become active partners in resolving problems like poverty, illiteracy, indiscipline, unemployment, corruption, saying these are posing threat to national unity, security and prosperity.
He was addressing after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of 69th Independence Day function here at Panchkula today.
The Governor said India's freedom struggle was an epoch making event in the annals of history. The movement was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's non-cooperation and non-violent struggle for freedom.

He also expressed his gratitude to the scientists, farmers, labourers and other builders of nation who played a vital role in development of the country.
The Governor also paid homage to former President late A P J Abdul Kalam and recalled his contribution to the nation.
Solanki said brave people of Haryana also played dynamic role in the freedom movement, saying he felt pride that the sparkle of first freedom movement in 1857 was ignited at Ambala.
He praised the all round development made by Haryana.
"Haryana, though geographically a small state, has made phenomenal progress in every field of development and at the same time preserved its rich cultural heritage. Its credit goes to the government as well as hardworking people of the state," he added.
Solanki appreciated the welfare schemes initiated by the state government for all sections of the society, especially farmers, Scheduled Castes, weaker sections of the society, women, freedom fighters, physically disabled, traders and employees.
He also greeted the people of district Panchkula on the 20th anniversary of the District as it was founded as 17th district of Haryana on August 15, 1995.
The Governor also honoured the freedom fighters and those who had brought laurels to the State in different fields. He announced a prize of Rs five lakh for the children and Rs two lakh for the police commandos who participated in the function.
Earlier, he unfurled the national flag and inspected the parade. Also, he paid floral tributes to the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country.
