"Within one month, NHPC -- the project executing agency -- would recruit local youth to Class III and Class IV vacancies at the project," Public Health Engineering Minister Taj Mohiuddin said addressing a public gathering at Salamabad in Uri town, 105 kms from here, last evening.
Mohiuddin said the assurance was given to him by Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde during a meeting last week in New Delhi.
The NHPC (National Hydroelectric Power Corporation) would also train these youth at ITI Uri for their absorption in the company, he said.
The Minister said as a sequel to the decisions in the meeting held at New Delhi, free power from these projects would be provided to all the BPL families in the catchment area.
"The company would be spending one per cent of the project cost for development of the area."
The minister asked the farmers, whose land has been acquired for the 240 MW Uri-II power project, to end their 105-day strike. The farmers had staged a relay sit-in outside the project site, forcing the company to suspend work.
Mohiuddin expressed hope that Jammu and Kashmir would soon get back two power projects from NHPC
