Govt accords high priority to homoeopathy development:Minister

The Centre has accorded high priority to the development of homoeopathy along with other traditional systems of medicine, Union minister Shripad Yesso Naik said today.

Homoeopathy has assumed prominence as a system of medicine and gained unfathomable popularity throughout the country after Independence, the Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for AYUSH, said.

Naik was in the city to inaugurate the statue of Dr Samuel Christian Frederic Hahnemann, the founder of homoeopathy, at the National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH) here on its foundation day.

He said the institute should excel in education, provide outstanding patient care and carry out need-based research as homoeopathy was gaining importance and acceptance all over the world.
 

Naik announced allocation of Rs 60 crore for the first phase of expansion of the institute, and Rs 30 crore each for the second and third phases.

For focused development of the traditional systems of medicine and to use them effectively in health care delivery system, a separate department of AYUSH was established in 1996 in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which in 2014, was further upgraded to a separate Ministry for AYUSH.
