The government today advanced the implementation of its decision to provide minimum support price of Rs 5,275 per quintal for moong dal by a month to September 1.

Earlier it was planned to be implemented from October 1.

The Agriculture Ministry in a statement said that this year Maharashtra and Karnataka offered to buy the commodity at the MSP rate.

On this offer, the ministry has decided to prepone the implementation of the MSP and has passed the order for the procurement, it added.

As moong dal has already started coming into the markets, the government has decided to advance the date. It also said that this year MSP is Rs 425 more than the previous year's.

Nafed is prepared for the procurement in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana.

It added that other states should also take advantage of the scheme if the price of the commodity dips below the MSP.
