In a bid to increase the number of pollution checking centres in the city, Delhi Government's Transport department has decided to allow private individuals to open these centres.

The government has revised the existing guidelines according to which petrol pumps and showroom workshops are authorised to issue PUC (Pollution Under Control Certificate) allowing the individuals to open pollution checking centres, said a senior government official.

As per the revised guidelines, any individual having space of 200 square feet can apply for running a pollution checking centre, he said.

Presently, there are only 681 PUC centre in Delhi and this number is to be doubled through public participation.

This will also generate employment, the official said.
