The Delhi government Tuesday approved a proposal to amend a rule on giving ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to the kin of slain security personnel to include those who have settled in the national capital after joining service.
According to the government, the amendment was necessitated following the latest incident of brutal murder of Head Constable Narender Kumar of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Jammu and Kashmir.
It was noted that the family of Narender has been residing in Delhi since many years though he hailed from Haryana.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Later, Kejriwal said on Twitter that a family member of Narender will be given a job. Last week, he had visited his native village in Haryana's Sonipat.
"Families of such personnel would also be covered in this policy if his permanent address recorded at the time of joining the service is Delhi or is posted in Delhi at the time of action/incident or the family has been residing in Delhi for the last at least five years," it stated.
It stated that the issue of proof of residence in Delhi will be looked into by a Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by the Deputy Chief Minister.
