Govt approves revision of cost of SECC

The government today approved the revision of cost of Socio-Economic and Caste Census to Rs 4,893 crore.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved the Rural Development Ministry proposal for revision of cost of SECC 2011, according to an official statement.

The SECC survey which started in 2011 project has already been concluded on March 31 last year.

The total cost incurred on the survey was nearly Rs 900 crore more than the indicative cost of Rs 4,000 crore.

The cost has already been committed and the project has met all its milestones.
 

The SECC will help in better targeting of beneficiaries in various state-run welfare schemes and its data is being used more prominently than BPL data.
