The government has constituted a high-powered committee for resolution of pending highway projects, Parliament was informed Thursday.
"The Government of India has constituted a high-powered committee to evolve a framework of guidelines for resolution of stuck projects," Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
Gadkari said the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had issued guiding principles for resolution of stuck national highway projects vide office memorandum in March 2019.
The ministry and its implementing agencies have initiated action to take up measures for resolution of stuck projects within the framework of these guiding principles, he said.
According to the policy guidelines, the term "stuck project" as used, means a project undertaken by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways through NHAI, NHIDCL or state PWD where the work has stopped due to inability of the contractor to continue with the execution of the project on account of proceedings initiated against it before the NCLT.
Process for revival of stuck projects has been initiated, he said.
