A meeting of all 39 MPs hailing from the North-Eastern states will be held here on December 19 to seek their suggestions for a smooth, result oriented and meaningful functioning of the DoNER Ministry.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region(DoNER) Jitendra Singh in a letter addressed individually to each of the MPs said that he would earnestly look forward to seek the cooperation and inputs from the MPs hailing from the region for a smooth, result oriented and meaningful functioning of the Ministry.

In a bid to ensure greater involvement of the people's representatives in decision-making, Singh has also requested each of the North-East MPs to submit their preference and priority for the ongoing as well as prospective projects in the region.

The Minister said development of the North-East is high on the agenda of the BJP-led government as well as of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Singh said future thrust will be on improving the road and rail connectivity, generating jobs for youth and innovative initiatives seeking to bridge the diversity between eastern part of India and the rest of the country, an official release said.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned to the capital yesterday after his three-day visit to the North-East where he announced some major new initiatives for the region.
