A senior government doctor was crushed to death by a train today, with railway police not ruling out the suicide angle.

Rakesh Jain, a senior medical officer posted at Longowal, was crushed by the Dhauladhar Express near Baba Moolchand Railway Crossing at Sunam, SHO, Government Railway Police (Sunam) Gurcharan Singh said.

On the basis of the statement recorded by the deceased's son Ankur Jain, police have prepared an inquest report under Section 174 CrPC (unnatural death), Singh said.

Ankur told police that his father used to go for walk around 2:30 AM. He said his father was crushed to death by a train possibly while crossing the railway tracks, the SHO said.

An official of the health department said Rakesh had been suffering from depression since he was attacked by unidentified assailants around 15 years ago when he was posted as a medical officer at the Sunam hospital.
