A senior government doctor posted at a civil hospital here has taken voluntary retirement from his job, citing "acute shortage of staff and poor working condition".

H Majumdar had been working in the hospital for the last one decade.

Talking to media, he said there was an acute shortage of doctors in the hospital for which he had to attend around 200 patients in OPD everyday, besides his indoor and other official duties.

He said that he felt he was not doing justice with the patients in such an atmosphere and that is why he decided to leave the job.

He claimed young doctors are not joining the civil hospital as they are aware of the "horrible" condition of their seniors here.
