Govt doubles transport allowance for hearing impaired staff

Finance Ministry has doubled transport allowance to Rs 3,200 crore for hearing impaired employees of central government.

It has been decided to double transport allowance to hearing impaired employees also in addition to employees who are both deaf and dumb, Finance Ministry in an office memorandum said.

For the other staff, transport allowance is pegged at Rs 1,600 per month.

Transport allowance at double the normal rates would be admissible to the hearing impaired employees having loss of 60 decibels or more in the better ear in the conversation range of frequencies, it said.

"The admissibility of the transport allowance at double the normal rates to the categories of employees is subject to recommendation of the head of the ENT Department of the Government Civil Hospital," it said.
 

The order is effective from February 19, 2014, it added.
