Pursuing B.Tech, MCA and M.Tech programmes in National Institute of Technology (NITs) will become expensive as the government has given its nod to raise the tuition fees to Rs 70,000 per student per year.
The NITs have received the government's nod to raise the tuition fees of B.Tech, MCA and M.Tech programmes to Rs 70,000 per student per year from the 2014-15 academic session, an official statement said.
The NIT council which met here in October last, had recommended to raise the fees barring SC and ST students in keeping with the recommendation of a standing committee under the NIT council which had suggested to double the fees.

"There will be no change in the existing exemptions of tuition fees for SC and ST students," said a HRD Ministry order.
The council, at its meeting had also recommended raising the tuition fee per student per year for two-year M.Sc programme to Rs 15,000 and Rs 15,000 for Ph.D programme, which has also been approved by the government.
