Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh today hit out at the Modi government alleging that it is offering "petty sops" to the people who have suffered "tragic losses" due to demonetisation.
"The appalling lack of empathy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cronies in the government, such as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, has assumed deplorable proportions," Singh said.
Instead of addressing the problems of the poor who are the worst ones to get affected by demonetisation, the government is busy trying to find ways to cover up its lapses through stupid incentives for going digital, he said.

The so-called incentives announced on yesterday by Jaitley are as far removed from the ground reality in the wake of demonetisation as the move itself, he said.
The Congress leader said the finance minister is talking of petrol, diesel, and insurance policies, when people don't have cash to buy food. He claimed the Centre, with the demonetisation move, has found a legal way of seizing the hard-earned money of the citizens of India.
"People don't need few discounts on things such as railway travel, insurance etc. They need food to feed themselves and their families, they need money to survive, Singh said.
