Govt guidelines to encourage pvt players to set up U'versities

: Puducherry government has released policy guidelines to encourage private players to set up self-financing Universities in the Union Territory.

A notification of the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education containing the order of the Lt Governor, published in this issue of the State Gazette, stated this would come into immediate effect

It said the proposal for setting up private universities should be submitted to the Director of Higher and Technical Education by the sponsoring body, which should be a society registered under the Societies Registration Act or any public trust registered under the State public Trusts Act or Indian Trusts Act (Central Act) or under relevant laws in any other State or Union Territory.
 

It said investment by private societies or trusts in higher education would enable the Union Territory achieve its target of developing Puducherry into an educational hub'.

The Council of Ministers had considered the plan to encourage private players to set up self financing universities and 'policy guidelines' had since been approved.

It was also stated that the concept of setting up self financing universities by major organisations and trusts has evolved in various States to impart specialised teaching for alround development of students.
