BJP today said prices of pulses have come down to Rs 100 per kg from earlier about Rs 200 and credited the Modi government's policies for it.
The government has been able to shorten the gap between the demand and supply of pulses and increase the area under their cultivation by incentivising farmers, it claimed at a press conference where it also issued its chief Amit Shah's statement, hailing the Centre for raising the minimum wages for unskilled non-agricultural workers by 42 per cent.
The raise underlined its commitment to the poor's welfare as crores of poor labourers will directly benefit from this decision, he said.
The party's national secretary Sidharth Nath Singh said the crackdown on hoarders and increase in minimum support prices of pulses besides other measures have resulted in the fall in prices of the staple food.
Pulses have been cultivated this season in 139.42 lakh hectare compared to 95.40 lakh hectare previously, he said.
"We have shown that this is not a government confined to merely giving slogans like 'garibi hatao' but believes in empowering the poor," he said, taking a dig at the Congress.
The government has brought down the inflation to single digit from the double digit earlier and aims at keeping it around 4 per cent, he said.
The prices of pulses had shot up due to the failure of the UPA government's economic policies, he said.
Citing the government's decision to hike the wages of unskilled non-agricultural workers to Rs 350 per day from Rs 246, Shah said it is a step in the direction of realising the party ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya's dream of the poor's welfare.
The decision to pay government employees as per revised norms for 2014-15 and 2015-16 is also a welcome move, he said.
